Rahma Refuge emerged in response to the distressing aggressions in Palestine that commenced on October 7, 2023. Witnessing the severe atrocities unfold, we foresaw the impending mental health crisis facing the Palestinian people. Driven by the #mentalhealthmatters ethos and recognizing the lack of organizations focusing on mental well-being, we embarked on a mission.
Our primary goal is to provide a 7-week trauma program, Beyond Trauma™, crafted by the esteemed Mayameen Meftahi. Her dedication to trauma survivors has been formally acknowledged by Her Majesty the Queen. Blessed with permission to deliver this impactful program, our initial steps involve translating it into Arabic and training Arabic-speaking psychologists and counselors for its implementation.
Our fundraising efforts are dedicated to making this program accessible to women at no cost. Join us on this journey to bring hope and healing to those affected by trauma.
An article from The Lancet Psychiatry highlights the dire mental health situation in Gaza following the October 7 Gaza border crisis. The ongoing bombardment, lack of essential resources, and the collapse of mental health services pose significant challenges. Local mental health professionals, deeply affected by trauma, are struggling to provide support.
Rahma Refuge is well-suited to address the suggested approaches for meeting mental health needs in Gaza. Recognizing the limitations of local capacity-building, Rahma Refuge offers external support to help rebuild the mental health of Palestinians. The emphasis on collective and communal care aligns with Rahma Refuge’s approach, advocating for group-based interventions such as a comprehensive 7 week-long program tailored for adults.
Rahma Refuge, with its commitment to providing a comprehensive mental health support program for adults, recognizes the complexity of the situation in Gaza and aims to contribute meaningfully to the recovery and well-being of the affected population.
